Just Asking

Recently, the United States Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons and can in fact, make unlimited contributions in a political campaign.
Here's a question, since corporations are deemed persons, shouldn't someone (Massey Energy or at least the CEO of Massey) be held accountable for the murder of 29 coal miners in a West Virginia coal mine that was cited as unsafe due to high methane gas levels, which caused the explosion in the mine that killed the workers?
Since corporations are persons, isn't BP responsible for the oil leak disaster in the Gulf of Mexico that is slowly, but surely destroying that waterway?
Shouldn't Massey Energy be punished in the same way as a person who murdered 29 people in a bombing or shooting rampage?
Shouldn't BP be punished for it's negligence in the same manner that a person who was caught sabotaging an oil rig that resulted in the current mess in the Gulf would be?
After all, BP is a person, according to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Massey Energy is a person, according to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Get the point?
Punish these bastards to the fullest extent of the law.

Don't believe the hype

The Democratic Party is alive and well my friends.
The GOP (Republicans) lost out again on Tuesday in the primaries in Pennsylvania where the late John Murtha's 12th district U.S. House seat went to the Democratic candidate, Mark Critz who won comfortably over Republican Tim Burns.
That makes it seven-for-seven for the Dems against the Republicans in head-to-head "special elections" in the House since Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in 2008.
Elsewhere around the country, Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln will have to face a runoff election against Bill Halter to retain her seat in the Congress.
Rand Paul, son of U.S. Representative Ron Paul, blew away Mitch McConnell's hand picked boy Trey Grayson in the Republican primary for Jim Bunning's Senate seat from Kentucky.
However, the biggest winner was Joe Sestak, who knocked Arlen Specter out of the race for the Democratic Senate seat in November. Sestak will face corporate funded GOP candidate Pat Toomey in the mid-term.
The people are not stupid like the corporate media thinks they are and showed that on Tuesday and will show it again come November.
Don't believe the hype that the Republicans will capture either the House and/or the Senate in November.
At best, and I'll say it again, AT BEST the GOP will gain no more than 12 seats in the House and perhaps 4 to 6 Senate seats.
Modest gains at best.
The Republicans back in charge of the United States Congress?
HAH!
The American people are NOT that stupid in spite of the rhetoric on Fox "News" channel and the other right wing media.
Protect America and American jobs and defeat Republicans.

There was once a time when journalists actually went after stories and stayed with them and on occasion scooped (there's a term that's long gone in journalism) the other reporters in their field.
Politically, this country has seen a homogenization of reporting because everything is so "organized" and politically correct these days.
Gag!
Many years ago, yours truly worked in the field of journalism as a writer/reporter for the (now nearly extinct) newspaper industry.
It was my observation then that something was up as more and more of the aforementioned took place involving the breaking of real news stories to the public.
The reason for this post is upon watching the talking heads on the Sunday morning news talk shows on the various television networks as well as the cable news networks.
Simply put, they really are not telling us anything, just offering a left and right wing spin on the stories that have been in the news.
When I was a child, on Saturday mornings there was a segment hosted by Christopher Glenn on CBS called "In the News" which would actually inform children as to what is going on in the world.
What a concept.
There's probably no way that would ever happen these days as the corporations that have taken over the news media and networks simply wouldn't allow it.
An apathetic public is the norm and when people aren't aware of what is really going on in the world, they tend to disregard real news stories that actually have an effect on their collective lives.
Most people go to the internet these days as a news source and that's good, but it only goes so far because that source doesn't go into detail on stories or spring "exclusives" the way newspapers and local TV news stations can do.
Point is journalism definitely suffers from a lack of investigative reporting in this time. It starts at the top and with so much corporate interest involved, it has a definite impact on the way a person can go about getting to the bottom of a real news story.
Money talks.
Now it's about time to change that.
Fat chance of that happening.
In the meantime, heftyinfo will continue to observe our corporate media and continue to hound them as they just go along with the status quo when in fact they need to go after real news stories with the gusto once seen in times past.
