The United States of America - Love It or Leave It

Here it is the 4th of July holiday once again and the United States of America  could very well be at a cross roads.

The election in November could determine whether we as a nation (a free and independent country since 1776) stay a democracy or go down the dreaded and gloomy road of fascism. It's simple folks, current President Joe Biden stands for truth, justice and the American way as we have known for nearly 250 years.

On the other hand, republican nominee and former president and convicted felon Donald J. Trump represents the oligarchs he serves (including his puppet master Vladimir Putin of Russia) and wants to be a dictator.

Phooey!

The good people of this country who served in World War II were brave soldiers who battled Adolf Hitler and the Nazis and I will be damned to see this country piss on the graves of those who fought against what Trump and his goons want to bring to the USA . . .  fascism.

The 4th of July is a time to celebrate our independence from kings and tyrants as the Founding Fathers intended.

However, the current edition of the United States Supreme Court (more like a kangaroo court these days) decided that the President of the United States should be a king.

WTF !!!

The six right wing political hacks on the SCOTUS (John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney-Barrett) are hell bent on getting Trump back into the White House and have bent over backwards on his behalf by declaring that the president has immunity when it comes to breaking the law.

What in the actual hell is that all about?

These people are demented. Pure and simple.

When it comes to the United States of America, the country is meant to be a beacon of light, not a nation of doom and gloom that comes with fascism reigning over the people of the land. There are those who are wanting to see that happen. I would be willing to bet these same folks have never been in the military and would not know the duty of defending their country if called to do so.

Cowards is what they are.

But on this holiday of the red, white and blue and stars and stripes, let us celebrate the greatness of the USA and all that is good and that could be again as long as We The People (the first words in our U.S. Constitution) make it happen at the ballot box on November 5th.

Election Day!

The feeling here is the good people of this country will keep us a democracy rather than a shit hole country that is known as a fascist one.

God Bless America and if you are one of those who want to differ with our democracy, then get the hell out and move to Russia or somewhere else on this planet.

This is the United States of America - so love it or leave it.

Happy 4th of July!

What's Up With Early Debates?

Why are the U.S. Presidential debates taking place so early this time around?

It makes no sense whatsoever to have a debate between President Joe Biden and convicted felon and presumptive republican nominee Donald Trump in late June. The presidential debates have always been in late September and during the month of October. What is with the nonsense of June 27th for the first one of only two debates for the upcoming election?

Something doesn't pass the smell test with this format.

Think about it . . . here is Trump (a 78-year old man with 34 felony convictions) and he is going to have a debate with our sitting president even though he hasn't officially been declared the nominee yet. The Republican convention isn't even taking place until next month.

Very peculiar how the system is bending over backwards for this convicted felon, including the United States Supreme Court (at least six of the justices that is) to keep him relevant and out of prison.

That milk needing judge down in Florida (Aileen Cannon) is another piece of shit who is committing crimes with her handling of Trump's espionage case for stealing classified documents and likely selling them to the highest bidders in Russia or Saudi Arabia.

Think about it . . .  BSM didn't give Jared Kushner (Trump's son-in-law) TWO BILLION DOLLARS for no reason.

This whole thing stinks and we the American people are sick and tired of it all.

Complicit corporate controlled media and a corrupt SCOTUS adding to all the shit that Trump is involved in on a world wide scale as well.

Corruption. Corruption. Corruption.

In any case, the debates will be held and President Biden will mop the floor with Trump once again, just like he did four years ago.

Count on it.

In the meantime, my fellow Americans . . . check and re-check your voter registration record and make sure you are eligible to vote and get out there and VOTE (either early or on November 5th) to ensure the fascists get their asses handed to them nationwide.

Millions of good American citizens are counting on it.

Father's Day Memories

Today is Father's Day and it's been awhile since there has been some reflection on this site regarding family memories.

Back in the day when I was growing up and my brothers and myself would look forward to the summer months, the month of June meant school was out and of course, Father's Day came on the third Sunday that month and it usually meant cooking out in the back yard and enjoying the day with mom and dad. A couple of years during the 1970's, we even went to a Chicago Cubs or White Sox baseball game on Father's Day. Dad was always more of a White Sox fan while mom liked the Cubs better.

As time went by and we got older and eventually it was just myself and one of my older brothers as the two oldest moved out on their own (there were four of us and I'm the youngest) things were different and we would give dad a card and some sort of gift. He always seemed to appreciate them even though they weren't much (at least in my mind) but looking back those were special times.

Mom would always remind us to do something to help dad out (mowing the lawn, cleaning up after ourselves, etc.) to make things easier for him as he worked all week long to provide for all of us. Growing up in the late 1960's and the decade of the 70's was a unique time for sure.

No cellular phones or internet was around back then and usually we entertained ourselves playing baseball games and the like with the neighborhood kids and doing what we had to chore wise around the house.

Things always seem simpler when you're a youngster, probably because they were.

As time went by and my older brother eventually moved out, it was myself and mom and dad at home in the mid 1980's and mom and me would take dad out for dinner on Father's Day, where at least one or two of my older brothers would meet up with us and it would be a celebration for the day. That continued throughout the late 1980's and early 1990's.

In 1993, mom passed away in April (19th) and that was rough for dad and soon afterward he retired and a few years later sold the house in the south suburban area of Chicago we all knew for so many years and moved out to Elkhart, Indiana. One of his sisters (Aunt Jean) lived in Indiana and dad liked the open land area he moved to in the spring of 1998.

As the years continued to go by, all four of us brothers would make the trip to Elkhart and meet up with dad for the day on the third Sunday in June. From 1998 until 2003, we would go to the barbecue held by the local moose lodge dad joined up with in Indiana. The chicken was always delicious and it was a great time, even with dad having gone through the hardships of having one of his legs amputated above the knee early in 2000. We would pick him up and make a day of it and he enjoyed himself.

Dad's health would decline through the years and after 2004, when we just kept it simple with a backyard BBQ at his house in Elkhart, Father's Day consisted of taking dad to dinner at a local restaurant (Callahan's) that he really enjoyed. He would usually order the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and either string beans or carrots, which were his favorite vegetables. Dad always had a garden when we were young and grew numerous vegetables and of course tomato plants as well. He continued that even in his later years in Elkhart.

The last year we all got together for Father's Day was in 2011 and dad was in a nursing care center by then and all we could do was visit and then go to dinner (just us brothers) after the visit and reflect on year's past and hope for the best for our dad. He was 79 years old when he died in October that same year and one of our brothers (Gary, 50 years old) died a day after dad in late October due to health issues. That was rough for sure, but we always knew that dad had taught us through the years to keep moving on with life.

He would always joke about how when he "croaks" as he put it, we would have to carry on and continue on with our lives. Mom would get upset when he would say those things as I recall and say it wasn't funny to joke about that. But dad would do it nonetheless, always sure he would pass on before mom would.

Dad could be gentle, but he was more of a tough love kind of guy and that helped me out for sure in my life. Life isn't always going to go our way and we have to make the best of what we are given and earn our way through.

Dad showed us the way.

These days, it's just myself and my two older brothers (they're both long retired now) and Father's Day isn't such a big deal any longer. Ken (69 years old) lives nearby in the Chicago suburbs and is married and never had children while George, Jr. (67) has three kids and six grandchildren as he resides by himself now in Las Vegas.

Mom and Dad are both buried in the cemetery in Glenwood, Illinois (south suburb of Chicago) and Gary is there as well and the annual visit there on Mother's Day and Father's Day is how it is these days for me and as long as the weather is nice, I set up the grill and cook out in the back yard, just like the good old days with the family.

God Bless you all and here's to all the dads out there hopefully enjoying their special day with their kids and family.

Enjoy it now, because some day it will all be different.

Happy Father's Day!

15 Years And Counting

Heftyinfo recently celebrated 15 years on the internet and not much has changed here as sports is still the first love of this site and the political views remain the same even if evil forces around the world are attempting to change the United States of America into a fascist country.

I have news for those who would like to see that happen . . . not happening folks!!

Period.

End of discussion.

As for Blogger, the blogosphere doesn't seem to be what it once was, but then again nothing really is. Substack seems to be where it's at these days as far as folks putting out written stories or opinions, etc. And of course, podcasts are everywhere as that field is way overcrowded these days.

As for Heftyinfo, this site will remain right here and in this election year of 2024 in the USA, look for more political posts as November nears. As for sports, there will be plenty of that as well, especially when August rolls around and football gets ramped up for another exciting season.

In the meantime, I will just keep on keeping on . . .

See ya again soon folks.

So Long Dear Friend

Alana and Adonis
Her name is Alana and she was a great woman who was a very caring person and unfortunately succumbed to some demons that she battled through the years.

It's an unkind reminder of how powerful drug addiction can be and the inner struggle people have with these issues in their lives.

Alana died on April 15 and I recently became aware of what happened after not hearing back from her in recent weeks. Only 42 years old and leaves behind an adult son (who lives pretty far away from the Chicago area) and her little (support) dog Adonis.

She was an energetic, bubbly person who smiled and laughed and seemingly enjoyed life, but again those inner problems would surface and push her into an isolation that eventually took over and claimed her life. People have to reach out when they feel something isn't right with a person they know. I offered her and her dog a place to stay at my home, but she insisted all was fine and she appreciated my offer even with her problems.

Just yesterday, after talking with her good friend Giana, who set up a Go Fund Me for a memorial service for Alana, we were able to get Adonis from the animal shelter nearby and put her into a good home (with children) as Giana was the one who gave the pet to Alana a little over a year ago.

Alana loved and cherished her little dog (Pomeranian) and as a tribute to her, we felt it was the right thing to do. She will be missed and here's hoping that anyone reading this can see the problems drugs cause and reach out and not just assume things are fine with people they know.

God Bless You Alana and don't worry, we have your little buddy Adonis in good hands.

May you Rest In Peace.

Some photos of Alana through the years . . .

UCONN HUSKIES WIN BACK TO BACK TITLES

The Connecticut Huskies (37-3) dominated the second half on Monday night against Purdue and beat the Boilermakers, 75-60 to win their second consecutive NCAA Men's Basketball championship.

It is the sixth championship in UCONN history for the men's hoops program and they became the first team since the Florida Gators won consecutive championships in 2006 and 2007 to get back-to-back titles.
