The New England Patriots got a gift from one of the worst play calls ever in the history of the Super Bowl as they held on for a hard fought 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 on Sunday in Arizona.
The Seattle Seahawks had the ball at the Pats' one-yard line with second and goal and rather than give it to Marshawn Lynch, their star running back who had 102 yards rushing and one touchdown in the game, they had quarterback Russell Wilson throw a pass that was intercepted by Malcolm Butler at the goal line to seal the win with just 20 seconds remaining.
Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady (pictured left) had four touchdown passes (with two interceptions) and 328 yards and hit wide receiver Julian Edelman for the game winning three-yard TD pass with just over two minutes left in regulation.
The Seahawks squandered a ten-point lead in the fourth quarter as the Pats scored two times in the final quarter to earn their fourth Super Bowl title since the 2001 season.
The Patriots earned the win with the fourth quarter heroics by Brady and company, but this game will forever be questioned as to why the Seahawks would throw from the one-yard line with Lynch in the backfield?
But it's all over for the 2014 NFL season and the New England Patriots are the Super Bowl Champions.
