Dick Kay, the former news reporter in Chicago television news for over 30 years and current host of "Back on the Beat" political talk show on WCPT-AM 820 radio in Chicago passed away early Thursday morning from reported heart failure after he was hospitalized following a brain hemorrhage last weekend.
Kay was 84 years old and was renowned for his gregarious nature and booming voice during political interviews and news talk shows through the years in The Windy City. After retiring from WMAQ-TV Channel 5 news as the political editor/news reporter in 2006, Kay returned to the Chicago and Illinois political scene on WCPT radio in 2008 and held a weekly gabfest for all things political on Saturday afternoons. He was never shy about his style of reporting and was not afraid to call out the leading political figures in Chicago and throughout the state of Illinois and politicians nationally.
Mr. Kay, nicknamed "Doogie" held political forums in Chicago and elsewhere in recent years on his radio program, including an event at a local union hall in Chicago in 2009 (pictured on the right in the upper left hand photo with the late, great broadcaster Ed Schultz) for a labor forum during former President Barack Obama's first term.
Rest In Peace Dick Kay.
