OUTLOOK FOR 2024 - The Giants will be looking for quarterback Daniel Jones to come back from an injury laden 2023 season and perhaps play at the level he did two years ago when they made the playoffs. Head Coach Brian Daboll was hearing it from Giants fans after a strong first year campaign that saw much success and a playoff appearance.
The offense suffered through many injuries to key players a year ago, averaging just 15.6 PPG (30th in NFL) while finishing 29th overall in total offense (280 YPG) and their quarterbacks were sacked a ridiculous 85 times last season. Jones should be ready to go and the running backs this year include Devin Singletary and Eric Gray as Saquon Barkley went to the Philadelphia Eagles in the off-season. Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers (LSU) will be relied on in the passing game as two of the top receivers from a year ago are gone elsewhere.
Defensively, New York was pretty bad in 2023, allowing 24 points per game and 362 yards (27th overall), but they really struggled to stop the run, giving up 132 yards per game (29th in NFL). Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux was a bright spot and leads the defense while the secondary will look to pick things up with some new faces in camp this year. Linebacker Brian Burns should help out as well as he comes over from Carolina, where he had eight sacks last season. The Giants had 34 sacks in 2023 and picked off 18 passes to help out a plus-12 in the turnover category.
If this team is to rebound in the NFC East, they will need much more from their offense this season and Jones will be the key for that to happen. There are many questions for the Giants as they look to compete against division heavyweights Dallas and Philadelphia. They did go 3-3 in division play last season, so there's that but they need to get off to a good start against a pretty tough schedule if they want to have a realistic chance to make the playoffs. One thing at a time is in order and perhaps another win or two this season would be progress.
