NFL - Week Eleven Review


The New England Patriots defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 31-28 to improve to 8-2 for the season while the Colts slipped to 6-4 and find themselves in a first place tie with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South.
The Jaguars knocked off the Cleveland Browns, 24-20 when Maurice Jones-Drew (133 yards rushing) scored on a one-yard run with 1:16 left in the game.
Meanwhile, Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes and the Patriots defense intercepted Colts' QB Peyton Manning three times, including the clinching pick with under a minute remaining in the game as the Colts were driving for the potential game tying field goal.

Around the league...

The Chicago Bears shut out the Miami Dolphins last Thursday night, 16-0... Tampa Bay also shutout the home team San Francisco 49ers, 21-0 behind a pair of TD passes from Josh Freeman and a suffocating defense that held the 'Niners to 189 total yards of offense... The Buffalo Bills stormed back from 21 points down to blast the Cincinnati Bengals, 49-31. Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Heftyinfo NFL Player of the Week, passed for 316 yards and four touchdowns to pace the comeback... New Orleans knocked off the visiting Seattle Seahawks, 34-19 as Saints' QB Drew Brees fired four TD passes and had 382 yards passing in the win...

Kansas City snapped a losing skid with a 31-13 trouncing of the Arizona Cardinals. Thomas Jones rushed for two scores and Matt Cassel threw two TD passes to pace the rout... Pittsburgh blasted the visiting Oakland Raiders, 35-3 behind a stingy defense that held Oakland to 182 total yards. Ben Roethlisberger passed for three scores and ran another for the Steelers... The Green Bay Packers may have put the final nail in the coffin of the Vikings and Brett Favre as they thrashed the Vikes in Minnesota, 31-3. Favre was outdone by Aaron Rodgers (301 yards passing), who threw four TDs, including three of them to wide receiver Greg Jennings, who had seven catches for 152 yards in the game... The Atlanta Falcons (8-2) remained atop the NFC South with a 34-17 win at St. Louis. Atlanta QB Matt Ryan threw a pair of TD passes and Michael Turner scored a touchdown while rushing for 131 yards for the Falcons... Baltimore scored two touchdowns on interception returns to seal a 37-13 win at Carolina... The New York Jets (8-2) remained in front of the pack in the AFC with a 30-27 nail biter over Houston. The Jets blew a 16-point fourth quarter lead before scoring on a six-yard pass from Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes with ten seconds remaining in the game...
The Washington Redskins beat Tennessee, 19-16 in overtime, Following the game, Titans' quarterback Vince Young stormed out of the locker room and was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after under going surgery on his injured thumb. Young is out for the season...

The Sunday Night Football game went to the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-17 over the New York Giants as the Eagles (7-3) took over first place in the NFC East. Michael Vick ran for a touchdown and LeSean McCoy (111 yards rushing) sealed the game with a 50-yard scoring run in the final minutes. Giants' QB Eli Manning was intercepted three times to offset two TD passes that gave New York a short-lived 17-16 lead in the third quarter. The Eagles defense limited New York to 208 total yards.
And finally, on Monday night, the host San Diego Chargers crushed the Denver Broncos, 35-14 as QB Philip Rivers (pictured upper right) threw four TD passes and five different Chargers scored touchdowns to pace them to a third consecutive win. Rivers leads the NFL with 23 touchdown passes and 3,177 yards passing. San Diego's defense sacked Denver QB Kyle Orton five times and limited the Broncos to 235 yards of total offense.
