AFC Championship Game Preview

This Sunday in Kansas City, the Chiefs will attempt to get to their third consecutive Super Bowl when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs finished the 2021 season with a 12-5 record and easily won the AFC West division while the Bengals (10-7 in regular season) won the AFC North division by virtue of a season series sweep against both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals surprised the AFC's top seeded Tennessee Titans last week, 19-16 in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The Chiefs disposed of the Buffalo Bills, 42-36 in a memorable overtime classic in the divisional round last weekend as the two teams combined to score 25 points in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime, where quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw the winning touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce.

These two teams met just four weeks ago in Cincinnati and the Bengals won a thriller, 34-31 which included rookie wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase setting a record with 266 receiving yards in the victory. Kansas City can move the ball on the Bengals and the same holds true when Cincy QB Joe Burrow is on the field. Both Burrow and Mahomes have been hot of late and who knows, we might be in for yet another classic battle that we saw last week between the Bills and Chiefs.

All in all, this game looks to be a good possibility of being a shootout, but the key will be (as always) not turning over the football. Look for the Chiefs to get control of this one and as long as they can slow down Burrow and Chase this time around, they should get the win and a third straight trip to the Super Bowl.
