So Long Dear Friend

Alana and Adonis
Her name is Alana and she was a great woman who was a very caring person and unfortunately succumbed to some demons that she battled through the years.

It's an unkind reminder of how powerful drug addiction can be and the inner struggle people have with these issues in their lives.

Alana died on April 15 and I recently became aware of what happened after not hearing back from her in recent weeks. Only 42 years old and leaves behind an adult son (who lives pretty far away from the Chicago area) and her little (support) dog Adonis.

She was an energetic, bubbly person who smiled and laughed and seemingly enjoyed life, but again those inner problems would surface and push her into an isolation that eventually took over and claimed her life. People have to reach out when they feel something isn't right with a person they know. I offered her and her dog a place to stay at my home, but she insisted all was fine and she appreciated my offer even with her problems.

Just yesterday, after talking with her good friend Giana, who set up a Go Fund Me for a memorial service for Alana, we were able to get Adonis from the animal shelter nearby and put her into a good home (with children) as Giana was the one who gave the pet to Alana a little over a year ago.

Alana loved and cherished her little dog (Pomeranian) and as a tribute to her, we felt it was the right thing to do. She will be missed and here's hoping that anyone reading this can see the problems drugs cause and reach out and not just assume things are fine with people they know.

God Bless You Alana and don't worry, we have your little buddy Adonis in good hands.

May you Rest In Peace.

Some photos of Alana through the years . . .
