Remembering Jesse Jackson

Rest In Peace Reverend Jesse Jackson.

The iconic civil rights leader and political activist passed away earlier today and leaves behind a remarkable legacy that included his involvement with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and so many others throughout the years. Jackson was 84 years old and had been in declining health for quite some time.

He rose to prominence in the 1960s and 1970s (with Rainbow PUSH coalition) and that continued through the 1980s when he twice ran for president with the Democratic party in 1984 and 1988 elections. He continued to stay active for many decades and wasn't afraid to poke some fun at himself as he appeared on Saturday Night Live (reading Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss and also the point is moot skit with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) and also was on Sesame Street in the early 1970s encouraging children to believe in themselves and always have hope.

The People United to Save Humanity (Operation PUSH) was his main claim to fame as well as holding charity basketball games in Chicago, which WCPT-AM 820 talk show radio host Richard Chew mentioned as well. I was working the music and sound operations and was able to meet the Rev. Jackson at the Scottie Pippen All-Star charity basketball game in September of 1994 at the old Chicago Stadium. That game was the last event ever held at Chicago Stadium before it was torn down as the United Center (located across the street in the Windy City) was about to open and Jackson was there during the event and again encouraging the kids in attendance with his "I Am Somebody" speech. Operation PUSH/Rainbow Coalition were involved with the event and what a night that was.

The man was remarkable and definitely one of a kind and a true fighter for justice and truth for so many people throughout the years.

Rest In Peace.

BASEBALL IS BACK

Spring Training!

Yes, pitchers and catchers have reported throughout Florida and Arizona as Major League Baseball is back for the 2026 season, which begins on March 26. The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again the heavy favorite to win the World Series, which would be their third in a row should they be able to accomplish that feat next fall.

But that is getting way ahead of things as the players get back in form and baseball shape as they stretch out and participate in the throwing drills and the pitchers and catchers play catch and get it going once again. Soon, the crack of the bat is heard throughout the camps as batting practice gets ramped up.

Here's looking forward to another exciting season and before that the spring training season throughout late February and most of March.

Seattle Seahawks Win Super Bowl

Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald (right) and QB Sam Darnold hoist the Vince Lombardi trophy.
The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl LX by a 29-13 score against the New England Patriots as Jason Myers kicked five field goals and tight end AJ Barner caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sam Darnold, who finished the winning effort with 202 passing yards. Seattle used a balanced offense to total 335 yards with 194 passing yards and 141 rushing yards, with running back Kenneth Walker III gaining 135 rushing yards on 27 carries, earning him Super Bowl Most Valuable Player honors.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks defense forced three turnovers and had six quarterback sacks and also scored a touchdown on a 45-yard interception return by Uchenna Nwosu to make it 29-7 with 4:27 left in the game. The victory was the second Super Bowl title for the Seahawks in franchise history and the first in twelve years for the team.

The Patriots scores came on a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Drake Maye (295 passing yards, two TD, two interceptions and one lost fumble) to wide receiver Mack Hollins and a seven-yard TD toss to running back Rhamondre Stevenson.

Congratulations to the SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - SUPER BOWL LX CHAMPIONS!!

SUPER BOWL LX PREVIEW

The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots will meet in Super Bowl LX on Sunday and it will be the second time these teams go at it for the NFL title.

Who can forget Super Bowl XLIX eleven years ago and the finish of the Patriots 28-24 victory when the most bone headed play call ever took place by Seattle Head Coach Pete Carroll that resulted in an interception by New England defensive back Malcolm Butler at the goal line. Can anyone say Beast Mode as in running back Marshawn Lynch not getting the football on that play from the one-yard line in the final minute?

But that was then and this is now and current Seattle Head Coach Mike Macdonald has this team focused and ready to go as does Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel, who in his first year with the team, led the turnaround from the disaster of the 2024 season in New England, which resulted in a 4-13 record and last place finish in the AFC East division.

The Patriots went 14-3 this season and finished as the second highest scoring offense in the NFL during the regular season, averaging 28.8 points per game while the defense allowed 18.8 PPG, which was fourth overall. In the three playoff games, the Patriots have allowed 26 points (8.7 PPG), which is outstanding. Quarterback Drake Maye had 4,394 passing yards this season along with 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions and also rushed for 450 yards with four touchdowns. The top running backs are Rhamondre Stevenson (603 rushing yards, seven touchdowns) and rookie TreVeyon Henderson, who went for 911 yards and scored nine touchdowns. Wide receivers include Stefon Diggs (85 receptions, 1,013 yards, four TD), Kayshon Boutte (33, 551, six TD), Mack Hollins (46, 550, two TD) and tight end Hunter Henry, who had 60 receptions for 768 yards and seven touchdowns. On defense, the Pats had 35 quarterback sacks and ten interceptions with Harold Landry III getting 8 1/2 sacks to lead the team while linebacker Robert Spillane had 97 tackles and two interceptions. Safety Jaylinn Hawkins led New England with four picks.

In Seattle, the Seahawks also finished the 2025 season with a 14-3 record and have a nine game winning streak heading into the Super Bowl. Seattle averaged 28.4 PPG this season with QB Sam Darnold passing for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Running back Kenneth Walker III rushed for 1,027 yards and scored five touchdowns and has been the workhorse in the playoffs as Zach Charbonnet (knee injury) is out for the year. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the primary wide receiver and had a monster season, catching 119 passes for 1,793 yards and ten touchdowns and has been stellar in the playoffs as well. AJ Barner (52, 519, six TD), Cooper Kupp (47, 593, two TD) and Rashid Shaheed, a trade deadline acquisition from New Orleans, has helped out as well, including returning a kickoff for a touchdown in the playoffs. The Seahawks defense led the NFL in scoring, allowing just 17.2 points per game as well as total defense, giving up 267 yards per game. Ernest Jones IV (five interceptions), DeMarcus Lawrence (six QB sacks) and Leonard Williams (seven QB sacks) lead the way and Seattle had 47 sacks and intercepted 18 passes this season.

This game should be an exciting one, but that will depend on both teams protecting the football. The Patriots have turned it over during the playoffs (five in three games) and Maye has been sacked 15 times in the three games. Better pass protection is a must for New England as the Seahawks defense can get after the quarterback and has forced four turnovers (three fumble recoveries, one interception) in the two playoff games. The Patriots also get after the quarterback, getting twelve sacks in their three playoff games along with eight turnovers (three fumbles, five interceptions).

Seattle likes to run the football and can throw it downfield with Darnold and Smith-Njigba doing most of the damage all season. The offense can mix it up and the running attack has been solid in recent weeks with Kenneth Walker III showing he can shoulder the load. The Patriots like to balance their offensive attack with Maye distributing the ball to the various receivers while Henderson and Stevenson provide consistent running. Finishing drives will be the key and both teams have shown that ability, so being stingy on defense in the red zone will help decide the outcome. Both teams have reliable kickers and Seattle's Rashid Shaheed is a threat to go the distance on both kickoff and punt returns, having scored twice on special teams. New England returners Marcus Jones (94 yard punt return for touchdown) and Antonio Gibson (90 yard kickoff TD return) showed they are a threat to score.

Look for a closer game than some might be thinking, but it shouldn't come down to the final seconds like it did the first time these teams went at it on Super Sunday eleven years ago.
