New York Giants - 2017 NFL Season Preview

NEW YORK GIANTS

2016 Record -  11-5-0

Head Coach - Ben McAdoo

Offensive Rank25th  (331 yards per game, 19.4 points per game)

Defensive Rank10th  (340 yards allowed per game, 17.8 points allowed per game)

Eli Manning (4,027 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 16 interceptions) is back at quarterback for another season. Backing up will be either Josh Johnson, rookie Davis Webb (California) or Geno Smith.
Paul Perkins (456 yards), Shane Vereen (158 yards) and Orleans Darkwa (111 yards, two TD) could form a backfield by committee this season. Rookie Wayne Gallman (Clemson) could get a shot as well.
The strength of the offense should be the wide receivers as Odell Beckham, Jr. (101 receptions, 1,367 yards and ten TD) and Brandon Marshall (59, 788, three TD with the Jets) look to be a possible formidable tandem. Sterling Shepard (65, 683, eight TD) and Dwayne Harris add depth. Rookie Evan Engram (Mississippi) and Rhett Ellison are the tight ends.
The defense has Jason Pierre-Paul (seven QB sacks) and Olivier Vernon (8 1/2 sacks) up front along with rookie Dalvin Tomlinson (Alabama). Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (six interceptions) and Landon Collins (five picks and four sacks) lead the secondary. Devon Kennard and Janoris Jenkins (three INT) are other key players on defense.

OUTLOOK FOR 2017 -  The Giants made it back to the playoffs last season and will look to challenge Dallas in the NFC East division this season. The offense has to pick it up a couple notches after a dismal performance (19 points per game average) last year.
Eli Manning makes the offense go and he will have two dynamic receivers with Beckham and Marshall to throw to. The running game MUST improve after gaining just 88 yards per game. Head Coach Ben McAdoo would like to see the team take the next step and move forward should they get back to the playoffs.
Whether they can take down Dallas for the NFC East crown is possible if things come together and the offense plays as well as the defense did last season. The odds are not in their favor but stranger things have happened in past years with this team. A 10-6 record and playoff spot is realistic for the Giants this year.
