NFL - Week Two Review

Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro celebrates game winning field goal.
Double Doink this!
The Chicago Bears beat the host Denver Broncos, 16-14 as rookie kicker Eddy Pineiro, Heftyinfo NFL co-Player of the Week, made a 53-yard field goal as time expired. It was Pineiro's third field goal of the game and provided a great finish to an otherwise boring game that featured numerous penalties on each team.
The Bears led 13-6 in the final minute, but the Broncos drove down and scored on a seven-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Flacco to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders with 31 seconds remaining.
They then made the two-point conversion after missing an extra point kick after a delay of game penalty forced them into the PAT attempt. However, the Bears were offside and then the Broncos decided to go for the two points again. From there, the Bears offense, led by QB Mitch Trubisky, drove downfield and set up the winning field goal on a clutch fourth-and-15 pass completion to WR Allen Robinson at the Denver 35-yard line with one second left.
In another close game that went down to the wire, the Detroit Lions scored late in the final quarter on a 31-yard TD pass from QB Matthew Stafford to WR Kenny Golladay and then held on for a 13-10 win at home over the Los Angeles Chargers as Darius Slay intercepted Chargers QB Philip Rivers pass in the end zone to seal the win.
The Chargers continually shot themselves in the foot with penalties and a costly fumble at the Lions goal line in the third quarter as they held a 10-6 lead. Two penalties on successive plays nullified touchdowns by running backs Justin Jackson (60-yard TD run) and Austin Ekeler on a screen pass. A pass interference gave the 'Bolts the ball at the one-yard line, but then Ekeler fumbled and Detroit recovered to end the drive. In addition, Chargers (punter) substitute kicker Ty Long missed two field goals that proved to be the difference in the final outcome.
The much anticipated game of the week in Los Angeles between the Rams and New Orleans Saints turned into a 27-9 rout by the Rams as Saints QB Drew Brees left the game with a thumb injury to his throwing hand and never returned. It's being reported Brees will be out at least six weeks. Rams QB Jared Goff had a TD run and pass and RB Todd Gurley scored his first touchdown of the season. The Rams defense limited the Saints offense to only 244 total yards, including just 57 yards rushing.
Of course, there was controversy involving the referees as an apparent scoop and score fumble return by Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan in the second quarter was nullified as the play was initially ruled an incomplete pass by (Rams QB) Goff before video review determined Goff had fumbled, but Jordan's scoring run didn't count because the play was blown dead.
The Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings, 21-16 at Lambeau Field as QB Aaron Rodgers had two TD passes and running back Aaron Jones rushed for 116 yards and a TD to pace the win. Vikings RB Dalvin Cook scored a touchdown and rushed for 154 yards while QB Kirk Cousins was intercepted twice and the Vikes had four turnovers in the loss.
The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Arizona Cardinals, 23-17 as kicker Justin Tucker made three field goals and QB Lamar Jackson proved to be the dual threat, passing for 272 yards and two TD and rushing for 120 yards in the home victory. Cards rookie QB Kyler Murray passed for 349 yards in defeat.
The Seattle Seahawks beat the host Pittsburgh Steelers, 28-26 as QB Russell Wilson had three TD
strikes and 300 passing yards. The big story in this game was Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (pictured left) leaving the game in the first half with an elbow injury. Big Ben is having surgery on the elbow and will miss the rest of the season. The Steelers will go with Mason Rudolph at quarterback for the rest of the season.
